FORGET about Santa coming down the chimney, almost 400 people are being provided with an opportunity to get a foot in the door with Australia's largest retailer this Christmas.

While some of us are celebrating Christmas in July Coles-Myer started the festive spirit last month when it began the search for 390 people to fill casual positions in Wollongong for the busy end-of-year shopping season.

Recruitment general manager Gautam Dev said for many people the many casual positions that would be available between September and January would provide an excellent opportunity to gain valuable retail experience with Australia's largest private sector employer.

"We are looking for friendly, outgoing individuals," he said.

A flair for great service was a prerequisite and retail training would be provided to successful candidates.

The training would centre on customer service, safe work practices and retail equipment operation.
